Waddel, originally delivered at Hopewell Presbyterian Church (Oxford, Miss.), November 26, 1871. In this sermon, Waddel describes the unspeakable nature of God's gift of Jesus Christ and his sacrifice. He begins by describing Paul's use of the word "unspeakable" to describe Jesus' sacrifice and how, if even a man of Paul's character cannot adequately describe it, it must be truly unspeakable. He then goes on to enumerate the justification for this epithet by describing the cost of this gift, the woes from which it delivers us, the benefits it confers upon us, the fact that it absolves all sins no matter the severity, the freeness of the blessing it bestows, and its everlasting nature.
