It j is very desirable that all Students should be present at the com- ) mencement of the year, particularly those entering the Junior | Class. The Seminary is open to Students of every denomination. Can- | didates for admission must furnish the Faculty with satisfactory testimonials, from enlightened and pious persons, of their talents, > piety, and prudence of having been regularly educated at some College or University, or of having made attainments deemed equi- 1 I valent and of being in full communion with some Christian I : Church. Such persons, on assenting to the Constitution of the i Seminary, are admitted to the enjoyment of all its privileges. COURSE OF STUDIES. The course of Study embraces a period of three years, and covers the several departments of Theological education. I. BIBLICAL LITERATURE. 1. The Grammar of the Hebrew Language, and the Grammatical and Exegetical study of the Hebrew Scriptures. Yarious por- tions of the Historical, Poetical and Prophetic Books are read, together with the Chaldee parts of Ezra and I'aniel. Transla- tion of portions of the N. T. into Hebrew. 2. The Exegetical study of N. T. in Greek. The Harmony of the J four Gospels, the Epistles, the Apocalypse of John. 3. Biblical Antiquities. Sacred Geography, the Principles of Inter- pretation, Biblical Criticism, Introduction to the Old and New Testaments. 4. Lectures on the Canon of the Old and New Testaments, on In- terpretation, on Biblical Criticism, on the Languages of the Ori- ginal Scriptures, and on Prophecy. The studies in this department occupy five days in each week in the Junior year. In the middle and senior years there are Exegeti- { cal exercises three days in the week 16 CATALOGUE. II. Human Apostacy, total depravity and imputation of guilt. Atonement its nature, design and extent. Results of Redemption Regeneration, Repentance, Faith, &c. Justification and Final Perseverance of Believers. Intermediate State. Resurrection of the Dead. General Judgment. Endless blessedness of the righteous, and endless misery of the wicked. The above general subjects in Didactic and Polemic Theology, are treated under more than one hundred subdivisions or heads, upon each of which a lecture is given by the Professor, and a writ- ten dissertation prepared and read by each Student, unless espe- cially excused This course extends throughout the three Semina- ry years, but more exclusively occupies the middle year. Lectures are delivered on Doctrinal Theology, on jbhe Canon of Scripture, on Biblical Criticism, Biblical Literature, ' Ecclesiastical History and Polity, by the Professors who preside : over these departments of instruction. ! The Elements of the Chaldee and Syriac will be taught to such students as may wish to commence those languages. Provision is also made for the support of Students in indigent circumstances. The Seminary is pleasantly situated in the thriving town of Co- lumbia, a place remarkable for health, no death having occurred in the Institution during the twenty-three years of its existence. Colum- bia is the Capital of the State of South Carolina, the seatof its College and other public Institutions, a place of easy access by rail roads, which are connecting it more and more with other portions of the Southern and South Western States. A branch of the South Ca- rolina Railroad terminates at this place, where it unites with the Charlotte and Greenville Railroads.
