Various trials and ordination sermons for prospective new members were presented. The Presbytery took the Midway Seminary under its care from the Georgia Education Society and later resolved to found a Presbyterian College at Midway. After rumors that the abolitionist cause would be taken up by the General Assembly, the Hopewell Presbytery issued a statement in support of the institution of slavery.
