Newton begins by describing Paul's journey to Macedonia to preach the Gospel and how he came to tell them to repent. Newton then describes how repentance from fear of punishment isn't true repentance. Newton sees true repentance as coming from a deep sense of evil and sin, a mourning for it as committed against God, and an earnest desire for deliverance.
