The FLYING WETREL Vol. 50 OCLETHORPt CCULECE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION MLANTA. CEORCIA APRIL 1970 No. 4 THE FLYING PETREL PROUDLY SPOTLIGHTS Mr. & Mrs. Stephen |. Schmidt Mr. & Mrs. "Oglethorpe College" Mr. & Mrs. "Dixie Seal & Stamp Company" Jeanne Fuller Schmidt '42 is a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, the Oglethorpe Alumni Association, and Ogle- thorpe Founders' Club. Stephen J. Schmidt '40 is a Trustee of the College, a board member of the Ogle- thorpe Booster Club, a member of the Oglethorpe Alumni Association, and a member of the Oglethorpe Founders' Club. During his days at Oglethorpe University he was a pledge of Pi Kappa Phi and one of our football petrels. Steve, Jr. is currently attending Memphis Southwestern and daughter, Leslie Schmidt Williams, is teaching 4th grade in Tallahassee, Florida. Every Oglethorpe student, alumnus, faculty member and administrator will admit that Oglethorpe College is unique and "stands out in some way" over any other experience. Members of the Oglethorpe community who have been fortunate enough to share the experience of knowing the Schmidts' will also agree that there is an ever-lasting specialness in being associated with these two outstand- ing Oglethorpe alumni. Recently, in Mr. Schmidt's address to the Oglethorpe student body and faculty at the Ogle- thorpe Day convocation, he described the Oglethorpe spirit. "This College just did not jiJSt happen. You've got to know that first of all. There is beyond your comprehension and mine much hard work, dedication, blood, sweat, tears, prayers, pride, sacrifices and determination to succeed that make up the ingredients of Oglethorpe from its first day until this day. We are still using these qualities. You are, the faculty is, the trustees are, and everyone con- nected with Oglethorpe. It has been a real struggle and MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION We want each of you to enjoy Alumni Day Oglethorpe Style. Relive your youth by spending the afternoon on the Ogle- thorpe College campus. That's 4484 PEACHTREE ROAD, ATLANTA, GEORGIA we're still in the same spot. I think there is no better phrase to describe Oglethorpe than Stormy Petrel." In turn, this overture describes the Schmidt approach to life. All Oglethorpe people respect, admire and appreci- ate the Schmidt Family. Not a year should pass without publicly saluting and expressing our gratitude to this family. Steve recently purchased this facility at 600 Somerset Terrace, Atlanta, Georgia. His company, DIXIE SEAL & STAMP, has moved to this location.
