The same is true for the students of Westside High School. Although we are all differ- ent in a variety of ways, we are surviving together. We have found ways to come together as a group of young Americans. The anticipation builds as the students enter Westside High School for the 2002-2003 school year. For some students, it is a new experience as a freshman. For others, the beginning of the year brings back memories of last year. The students spend some time catching up on their summer activities. A persons style of dress is the way he expresses himself. Even though dress code can limit that expression, stu- dents are still able to find a way around it to show their personality. Dress affects the way some students feel; if they are wearing a great or new outfit they just feel good that day and have more self confidence. If they wear an old regular outfit then maybe it is just a plain old school day for them. There is no way to say what fashion group someone is in or belongs to, but on a broad basis some polls were taken asking students what style of dress students most like. Out of 100 students the results were 46% preppy, 38% urban, 8% punk/ skateboarding style, 4% Country-Western, and 4% of students dress in a dark or gothic style. Money Matters There is one thing that everyone at Westside has in common; the need for money. Stu- dents are constantly spending money on clothes, food, and music. Upperclassmen use their money to keep their cars running. The diversity of our school adds to the variety of ways in which students get their money. Many students work late night just for a few extra dollars. Others get money from their parents for doing a little work around the house.
