The route ran from Chattanooga to a spot near what is now Forsyth and Magnolia Streets in Atlanta. The state operated the railroad until December 1870, when operations were transferred to the Western &amp; Atlantic Railroad Company for twenty years. Various other railroads have leased the line from the state to the present.
