Kropp Co.</dc:creator><dc:date>1900/1979</dc:date><dc:description>During the Civil War Savannah was taken by Sherman, Dec. 21, 1864, as the end of the famous march to the sea.  After considerable difficulty Sherman and his 60,000 men reached the town, which was held by Hardee with 15,000 Confederates.  Two days later, Dec. 12, Hazen took Ft. McAllister, thus establishing communications with Dahlgren's Federal fleet off Savannah.
