S'K ^04^ea/i Thursday, November 4,2021 ^11:00 am Beulah Baptist Church Earlean Cornelia Moore Harris was bom April 8, 1935 in Soperton, Georgia to the late Charlie Wesley Moore and Alherdia Bell Moore. At the age 0/3 the family moved to Claxton, Georgia where she was raised with her siblings Louise, KatJueen, and Savino Charles. Her parents enriched their lives by laying a foundation of love for family, a strong work ethic, ana Christian love. As a young teen Earlean expressed her desire to pursue a career in nursing. After graduating from Evans County High School in Claxton she boarded the Nancy Hanks Train and moved to Atlanta, Georgia to enroll in the Grady School of Nursing in 1953. While attending nursing school Earlean met the love of her life, Morehouse student Thomas E. "Tom" Harris. They married in 1956. From this union two children were bom, Thomas E. "Mickey" Harris, Jr. and Tonya Harris. Tom and Earlean enjoyed a loving 44-year marriage until his death in April 2000. Earlean's first job after graduating from Grady School of Nursing in 1956 was as a staff nurse at Hughes folding Community Hospital. While working at Hughes Spalding she cultivated friendships and a sense of community that she sustained throughout her life. In 1962 Earlean and 39 other nurses established the Gamma Chi Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., a professional association of registered and student nurses. She would later earn a Bamelor (ff Science Degree in Nursing and a Master's Degree in Education, both from Georgia State University. During her employment at Hughes Spalding, Earlean worked as a staff nurse. Director of Inservice Education, Quality Assurance Coordinator, and Assistant Director of Nursing. When Hughes Spalding closed in October 1988, Earlean was hired as the Director of Emergency and Ambulatory Nursing at Grady Hospital. She established ana maintained standards of patient care and administration (ff nursing care for the Medical Emergency Clinic, Surgical Emergency Clinic, and 21 Ambulatory Clinics, including Sickle Cell and Hospice. She was an active member of the National Conclave of Graduates of Grady School of Nursing. After leaving Grady in the early 1990s^ she began working at Blue Cross / Blue Shield as a Medical Review Analyst. She retired in 2000. W In 1965 Earlean, Tom, Mickey, and Tonya moved from their apartment on Westlake Ct. and into their forever home on Peyton Road. Earlean and Tom seized the opportunity to purchase this house and raise their kids in this desired community two years after the Peyton Wall barricade was removed. The wall had been built to prevent "encroachment and penetration" by Black citizens into white neighborhoods of Southwest Atlanta. Earlean joined Beulah Baptist Church in 1969. She served in the Beulah Matrons Ministry, Genesis Sunday School Class, Young In Heart Ministry and Beulah Senior Outreach Ministry. She helped coordinate annual bus trips to cmple orchards in north Georgia and to peach farms in middle Georgia. Earlean aladly cffered her nursing sldlls during church sponsored Health Fairs, checking blood pressures and other health related services. She had a special fondness for Seniors Citizens as demonstrated by her faithful service on their behalf. Earlean joined the Sparklers Bridge Club in 1965. She held numerous offices in the club including more than 2 terms as president and Chairperson for the 58th Anniversary Celebration. She was the club president at the time of her death. Earlean cherished the times spent with family and friends. She routinely attended Bell Family Reunions ana Danzy Family Reunions. She served as Financial Secretary of the Executive Board for the Danzy Family. She was an active member of the City of Atlanta Golden Age Club with Shawndra Long as the Program Specialist. Their many outings included trips to Washington, DC, New England and the Holy Land Experience in Florida. She looked forward to Holiday gatherings, especially the annual Adult Easter Egg Hunt. Earlean lead an extraordinary life with grace and dignity. On October 28, 2021 she died peacefully at home with her daughter Tonya holding her hand. Earlean was preceded in death by her husband Tom and son Mickey, sister Kathleen Moore Everett and brother Savino Charles Moore. She leaves a legacy of love, wisdom, and courage to her faithful and loving daughter Tonya, sister Louise Moore Littles, and sister-in-law Gloria Harris. Nephews: George "Brother" Tate, Bentz "BeBe" Tate, Charles Littles (Dana), ^ Wesley Everett (Tana), Daryl Littles (Rhonda).
