She was the oldest of three Mwrm children bom to the late Jack and Rosalee Williams. She r Jtwas preceded in death by her parents and bother Johnny Lester JL Williams. Lurine married Richard Moncrease, Sr. and to that union five children were bom, Richard Jr., Anita, David, and the twins, Darryl and Deborah. Lurine accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the age of 12, on the same day as her aunt Willie Mae, in the Canoochee River behind Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church where she was a dedicated and devoted member. Lurine served on the usher board, and was active in the Sunday School. She enjoyed traveling to and attending the Sunday School Conventions. Lurine graduated from Evans County High School in 1953. She loved school and was a member of the basketball and baseball teams, drama club, and a cheerleader. She was voted Best All Around Student in high school as well as president of her senior class. She was also the first Homecoming Queen of Evans County High School. Lurine moved to Detroit, MI in 1953 and joined Hartford Avenue Baptist under the leadership of the late Rev. Charles Andrew Hill. She met and married Richard Moncrease, Sr. She was active in the Sunday School as a member and a teacher, BTU, June Birth Month Club, the Altar Circle, Deaconess Ministry, Mothers Board, the Lenten Cell Ministry, Missionary Red Circle, Mission #4, the Charles G. Adams Drama Group, Chancel Choir and the Historical Ministry. During the 1960s she proudly accepted and sometimes shared the Hartford Avenue Baptist Church Mothers Day Award for having the most children attending Sunday School along with the late Sister Mary Turner. She also loved the work she did with the Deaconess Nurturing Committee providing scholarship to college students. She enjoyed the time she spent fellowshipping with her Red Hatters group. Because Lurine attended high school in Georgia, she was not allowed to enter Wayne University in Michigan. Instead she had to take courses at Detroit College of Business, but put her education on hold to raise her family. Lurine physically and philosophically walked with her children in the pursuit of their education from elementary through high school. During that time, Lurine served as a volunteer, teacher's aide and media technician. Lurine accepted a position at Sears and Roebuck during the early 1960s, establishing her among the first group of Black women hired by the company in Detroit. After an accident at work she was forced to resign, this allowed her to resume her passion for education. While the twins enrolled in high school, she enrolled in Wayne County Community College and obtained her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. She subsequently enrolled in the University of Detroit and received her bachelors degree and teaching certificate. She taught the family the importance of obtaining an education and persevering. Lurine exemplified its importance by teaching at Northwestern and Henry Ford High schools before taking a position at Munger Middle School from pif which she retired. Lurine loved to travel with Hartford and the Red Hatters. Almost every summer during the time of Revival at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church she would travel back to Georgia to see her family and let her children learn about their roots. Lessons on racism and segregation were avoided but God and Black pride were predominate themes. She would manage the house during the day, and in the evenings the ladies would sit on the porch and tell stories of early life. When her son David moved to California, she would fly out once a year and the two of them would travel to Mexico where they started a leather goods business. She also traveled to Canada, Puerto Rico, Amsterdam, Egypt, and Ghana. One of her most life changing experiences was going to the slave castles in Ghana and walking through the doorway of no return that her ancestors may have walked through. On Friday February 9, 2018 Lurine departed this life. She leaves to cherish her memory: her five children Richard Jr. of Detroit, MI, Anita of Southfield, MI, David (Rena) of Moreno Valley, CA, Darryl (Cathy) of Southfield, MI, and Deborah Allen of Detroit, MI; ten grandchildren: Kourtni, Kimberly, Brandon, Tiffany, Brittani (Brandon), Monique, Kiera, Demetrius, Rashard, and Donavan; four great grandchildren: Demetrius, Dillyn, Elan, and Gabriel; one sister Ada Bacon of Batavia, NY, two sisters-in-law Emmie Thomas and Helen Turner of Castleberry, Al; a special daughter Tonia; a special grand niece, Kim; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives ^nd friends. There are truly two doorways of no return. God does not give us a choice when and how we pass through them. The first is when we are born. Most of us come kicking and screaming through it almost as if we know the world is not the best place for us and we are about to experience some painful challenges. The second is when we die. The life most of us fought not to be born to, we fight to hold on to for as long as we can before we pass through deaths doorway of no return. Lurine has walk through both doorways of no return but this time she has entered paradise. o^tgmBicyF rOM s(e^ice HARTFORD MEMORIAL BAPTIST CHURCH Saturday, February 17, 2018 FAMILY HOUR / 10:00 AM Processional Visitation Remarks Acknowledgments Solo (Limit to 2 minutes please) Church Ministries Mother Ernestine Mosely Northwestern High School Ms. Kiera Allen Trustee Kathy Hemingway *Angeb Watching Over Me Mr. James Moore SERVICE OF WORSHIP / 11:00 AM Organ Prelude Opening Sentences Rev.
