CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF Booker Taliaferro Hagan Saturday, January 4, 2014, 1:00 p.m. Historic Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church Claxton, Georgia 30417 (Jhe Obituary Deacon Docker (J. c^agan was the fifth of fourteen children born to the late Peter A. Hagan and Maggie Bacon Hagan on December 24, 1917 in Evans County, Georgia. He departed his earthly hfe on December 30, 2013 at Gentiva Hospice after a short illness in Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia. He received his formal education in Evans County Public Schools and Dorchester Academy in McIntosh, Georgia. Deacon Hagan accepted Christ into his life at an early age and joined the now Historic Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. He was a faithful member and served as the chairman of the Deacon Board until his death. Deacon Hagan was inducted April 14, 1942 into the U. S. Army where he fought for our country during World War II as Staff Sergeant. July 28, 1945 he received the Victory and Good Conduct Medals, and the American Theatre and European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbons from the 1328th Engineer Construction Battalion. Shortly after the end of the war, he was honorably discharged November 23, 1945. May 8, 1948, he was united in holy matrimony to Avis Ball and to this union three children were born; Brenda, Anthony, and Janice. Deacon Hagan touched so many lives as a dedicated, diligent, and active community leader. He was a member of St. Joseph Lodge No. 76 and a Wishful Master for several years. His civic leadership led him to become one of the founders of Gladiators Inc., Secretary of the TattnaU Baptist Missionary Association, President of the Third District, and President of the Laymen Department. As a faithful member at Historic Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, he was instrumental in the development of the youth department. In addition, as a community leader, Deacon Hagan, served as the President of Evans County NAACP No. 5181, and became the first African American to serve on the Evans County Housing Authority and Evans Memorial Hospital Board of Directors. Deacon Hagan was preceded in death by his daughter Janice Hagan Hodges (Ronald) of Los Angles, CaUfornia. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife. Avis Ball Hagan of Claxton, Georgia; daughter, Drs. Brenda MaHk (Rasool); son, Anthony Hagan (Merkle Ann) of Atlanta, Georgia; eight grandchildren, residing in Atlanta, Liegia Hagan, Dr. Ishan MaHk, Fatima Mahk Griggs (Charles), Anthony Hagan Jr., Samira Malik, Winston Hodges (Los Angles, CaUfornia), Rasool Dawan Mahk II, and Ashley Hagan; five great-grandchildren, Naima Griggs, Denzel Hagan, Charles Gri^s IV, ILasool Dawan MaHk III, and Maxwell Hagan, of Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters, Viola Oglesby of Claxton, and Minnie Bryant (Lorenzo) of Savannah; and a host of loving and caring nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. God saw the road was getting rough, the hill was hard to climb. He gently closed your weary eyes and whispered, "Peace he thine." You left us very quietly, your many thoughts unknown, but left us many memories we are proud to own. So treasure him Lord in Your garden of rest. For when on this earth, he was one of the best.
