DAYS, PASTOR OFFICIATING OBITUARY Leamon Harold Strickland, Sr., was born in Crawford County, Georgia on March 21,1908. He was the son of the late Ellis and Car- rie Strickland. Mr. Strickland was a graduate of Georgia State College, now Savannah State College, Savannah, Georgia. After graduation he was employed by the Extension Service of Georgia as a County Agent in Emanuel, Bryan and Evans Counties. While serving as a County Agent, he married Gwendolyn Henley on June 16,1940. To this union, five children were born. He served in the United States Army with pride and distinction, and was honorabiy discharged. As an educator in the Evans County School System, he touched the lives of many, teaching carpentry, farming, plumbing and elec- trical skills. Many of these people continue to make their living from these skills. He retired from teaching in 1969. Mr. Strickland was a member of Thomas Grove A.M.E. Church, and faithfully served as Church Secretary for many years. He leaves to mourn a loving wife, Mrs. Gwendolyn H. Strickland; one daughter, Carole S. Flowers of Inglewood, Ca.; five sons, Larry V. Strickland of Fort Valley, Ga., Leamon H. Strickland, Jr. of Annan- dale, Va., William E. Strickiand of Durham, N. C., Anthony W. Strickland of Suffolk, Va., and Reuben Stanley Strickland of Claxton; two sisters. Miss Lessie Strickland and Mrs. Margie Rump, both of Fort Valley, Ga.; six grandchildren, Parrish, David, Carole, William, Mitcheli and Latoya; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Eddie P. Strickland, Fort Valley, Ga., Mrs. Geneda Henley, Louisville, Ga., and Mrs. Leona Williams, Savannah, Ga.; one brother-in-law, Robert Henley, Jr., Louisville, Ga.; three daughters-in-law, Mrs. Diane Strickland, Annan- dale, Va., Mrs. Linda Strickland, Durham, N. C., and Mrs. Gloria Strickland, Suffolk, Va.; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. / watched a sail until it dropped from sight Over the rounding sea a gleam of light A last, far flashed farwell, and Ike thought. Yet to the helmsman standing at the wheel Broad seas still swept beneath the clicking keel Disaster? Change? He left no slightest sign No dreamed he of that dim horizon line. So may it be, per chance, when down the tide Our dear ones vanish, peacefully the glide On level seas, nor mark the unknown bound We call It death to them is life beyond.
