I read of a man who stood to speak 
At the funeral of a friend. 
He referred to the dates on his tombstone 
From the beginning to the end. 
He noted that first came the date of his birth, 
And spoke the following date with tears, 
But he said what mattered most of all 
Was the dash between those years. 
For that dash represents all the time 
That he spent alive on earth. 
And now only those who loved him 
Know what that little line is worth. 
For it matters not, how much we own; 
The cars, the house, the cash. 
What matters is how we lived and love 
And how we spend our dash. 
So think about this long and hard. 
Are there things youd like to change? 
For you never know how much time is left. 
That can still be rearranged. 
If we could just slow down enough 
To consider whats true and real 
And always try to understand 
The way other people feel. 
And be less quick to anger. 
And show appreciation more 
And love the people in our lives 
Like weve never loved before. 
If we treat each other with respect. 
And more often wear a smile 
Remembering that this special dash 
Might only last a little while. 
So, when your eulogy is being read 
With your lifes actions to rehash.

A Time to be Bom,.. Ecclesiastes 3:2 
So God created man in his own image, the image of God created he him; 
male and female created he them.  Genesis 1:27 
Charlie Lee and Susie Coppock were blessed on April 20, 1920 with their bundle of joy, a 
baby girl named Mattie Laura Coppock. Along with her parents, Uttle Mattie was welcomed 
by her six siblings and the Springfield, Georgia community. 
A Time to be Educated... 
Matties first teachers, her parents, taught her to respect authority, be committed, work hard, 
and to love her neighbors as herself Her home-training was an asset to the formal 
education that she received in Effingham County. Mattie always strived to do her best, and 
in fact she was a very fast learner. She was trained by Mrs. Emma Lee Oxedine and attended 
Beautician School in Savannah, Georgia. There she received her beautician Ucense from the 
State of Georgia. 
A Time to Love and be Loved,,. 
As a young girl, Mattie strayed away from her parents teaching, but God so loved her that he 
sent Missionary Louise Stewart to tell her the good news, that Jesus Christ loved her best 
of aU, and that if she received Him, He would meet aU of her needs. Mattie opened her 
heart, received salvation, and the gift of the Holy Ghost. 
Because Mattie began to walk in obedience, God blessed her with true love, Mr. Willie 
Bacon. Their families were combined into a family of ten (10) which included two (2) foster 
children. Shordy after their marriage, their teenage son, Alonzo Coppock passed and the 
two (2) foster children were returned to theh parents. Even though they had losses, their 
love for God and each other grew stronger and bonded them even closer together. 
Mattie had a great love for children, especially those in need. Her home was never without 
children. As some grew up and moved out, others would move in. She raised and cared for 
twenty-five (25) children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, god-children, nieces, and foster 
children. 
A Time to Serve.. 
Mattie joined the First Christ Holiness Church more than sixty (60) years ago. Not only did 
she join the church, but she joined the body of Christ. She was trained under such great 
leaders as the late Bishops Albert and Edna Owens, the late Bishop Orbert Harden, the late 
Bishop Oscar Foxworth, and the late Elder Louise Stewart. As she matured spiritually, God 
elevated her from Missionary to Assistant Pastor and from assistant pastor to pastor of 
Smith Chapel Holiness Church for the last nine (9) years. Mattie has also served as the 
national mission secretary, chairperson of the First Christ Union Program Committee, and a 
member of the Evans County Ministerial Alliance. 
Mattie understood that to love and serve God is to love and serve man. It did not matter 
whether she was sick, cold, hot, or tired, she would gather nuts and vegetables to give to 
others. This was her way of saying T love you. Mattie helped many young mothers care 
for their children for long periods of time. Mattie preached and taught by example, be 
faithful until death. 
A Time to say Goodbye... 
Mattie spent more than sixty (60) years preparing for her departure and on Monday, June 9, 
2008, approximately 2:15 p.m., Mattie answered her masters call and entered into eternal 
rest. In addition to her son Alonzo, she was also preceded in death by her son Jerome Bacon 
and her husband, Willie Bacon.

Mattie leaves to cherish her memories: two ( 2) sons, Maurice Bacon (Barbara), Hinesville, 
Ga and Albert Bacon of Vidalia, Ga; four (4) daughters, Mary Lee Byrd, Claxton, Ga, First 
Lady Martha Lee Bacon (Bishop Bennie, Sr.), GlennsvUle, Ga, Evangelist Elizabeth 
Robinson, Jacksonville, FI, and Prophetess Freddie Bacon Chance of Savannah, Ga; Special 
grandchildren, Larry Brown (Rebecca), Brooklet, Ga, Marilyn Byrd Police, Savannah, Ga, 
Stanley Brown (Sheila), Claxton, Ga, Vincent Bacon (Teesha), Fort Knox, Ky, Velvet 
Jackson, Claxton, Ga, and Sefton Chance of Atlanta, Ga; great-granddaughter Keta McNeal; 
special nieces Kenisha and Jowanna blanks of Claxton, Ga; special great nephews MaUciah, 
Michael, and Zyvon Blanks; godchildren Margie Brewton, Cynthia Youngs, Edna (Red)
