John 14; 1 Minnie M. Smith was born to the late David McClain and Laurie McClain in Claxton, Georgia on September 5, 1942. She attended local public schools of Claxton, Georgia, and graduated from Evans County High School in 1961. She also attended Madame Cargo Cosmetology School (Master Cosmetologist), Savannah Technical School (Clothing and Textiles Management & Certified Nursing Assistant) and later received a Bachelor of Science (Dietetics and Institutional Management) degree from Savannah State College now Savannah State University. \ She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Rufus L. Smith'. To this union two children were born. She worked for Dr. Curtis Hanes in Claxton for 10 years, a Master Cosmetologist, Savannah Womens Clinic Brawner, Dekle & Angel for 16 years and Candler Advantage until her health failed. At an early age she was baptized at St. John Baptist Church in Claxton, Georgia were she served on the Usher Board. At a later date she Joined Little Bryant Baptist Church were she was a member of the Senior Choir, Sunday School Teacher and BTU. In 1982 she became a member of St. John Baptist Church were she was a faithful member of the Porter Ambassador Sunday School Class, Minnie Bowman Senior Mission, Senior Choir, Mission in Action, and New Discover Bible Study were she served until her health failed her. On Wednesday, Febmary 19, 2003 she was called from labor to reward. She leaves to cherish her memory; a son, Greg (Wendy) Smith; a daughter, Sharon V. Smith; mother, Laurie McClain, Claxton, Georgia; two sisters, Versie (Donald) DuPont; Pennie M. (Larry) Mobley; three brothers, Charlester McClain, Redland, California; Aaron (Helen) McClain, Wichita, Kansas; David (Ameatha) McClain; two aunts, Jessie Kyles, Sarah Badger, Claxton, Georgia; a grandson, Amari James Smith, a step granddaughter, Charmaine Brown, two step great grandchildren, Tamia & Tarik Brown; special niece and nephews, Versonya DuPont, Leonard (Nikki) DuPont and Dwyane DuPont; godchildren, Dwyane DuPont, Craig Smith, California, Sophronia (Vincent) Riley, Germany, George (Pam)Cummings and numerous other relatives and friends.
