Born June 20, 1920, he was a native and life long resident of Evans County, Claxton, Georgia. The son of the late Mr. George and Carrie Smith of Clax- ton, Georgia. He was a Deacon and faithful member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Claxton, Georgia. A World War II Veteran and a retired construction worker for Hodge and sons Construction Company. C., and Donnie Marie Hines, Guyton, Georgia; three chil(^ren preceded him in death; one sister, Anzella Lewis, Savannah, Georgia; two brothers, Henry Smith, Savannah, Georgia, and Warnell Smith, Miami, Fla.; six daughters- in-law, Annette Smith, and Mildred Smith, Athens, Ga., Cynthia Smith, Savannah, Ga., Catheline Smith, Cdum, Ga., Julia Smith, Montazuma, Georgia and Hilda Smith, Bayboro, N. C.; four sons-in-law, Bernard Kent, Jr., Savan- nah, Ga., SSG Dannie Holmes, Fayetteville, N. C., Frank Hines, Jr., Guyton, Ga., Billy Peters, Zolfo Springs, Fla.; one aunt, Mrs. Miley Daniels, Bronx, New York; thirty-one grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; including a devoted friend, Mr. and Mrs. Holmes Hodge and family.
