CLAXTON, GEORGiA OBITUARY Mrs. Josephine Parks-Martin Murphy was called home October 30, 1986 at St. Frances Hospital in Columbus, Ga. after a short illness. She was born January 14, 1927 to Mr. Rufus Martin and the late Mrs. Lula (Kitty) Parks in Meriwhether County, Ga. On August 7th, 1948 she was united in Holy Matrimony to Rev. Eugene J. Murphy, Jr. and to this Union six children were born. At an early age she joined Springfield Baptist Church in Meriwhether County. After moving to Evans County she united with New Bethel Baptist Church, Manassas, Georgia, where she was a devoted worker. She was a high school graduate of Georgia Baptist College in Macon, Ga., attended Fort Valley State College and graduated from Claxtons MDTA School of Practical Nurses. She was formally employed at the Griffin Hospital and was presently working with Evan Memorial Hospital. She leaves to morn a devoted husband. Rev. Eugene J. Murphy ill of Claxton, Ga., a loving father and stepmother, Mr. Rufus and Mrs. Ruby Martin, Chicago, III., four daughters, Mrs. Ernestine M. Robbins, Savannah, Ga., Mrs. H. Beautine Murphy and Mrs. Celestine M. West of Lithonia, Ga. and Ms. R. Phylistine Murphy, Claxton, Ga. Two sons, Eugene J. Murphy IV, Claxton, Ga., and Sgt. James T. Murphy, Fort Jackson, S.C., Three foster daughters, Ms. Zetta Smith, Ms. Lillie K. Smith of Claxton, Ga. and Mrs. Aretta Virgis, Irvington, N.J.; A devoted son and daughter-in-law, Mr. Claude Robbins, Savannah and Mrs. Gussie Carter Murphy, Ft. Jackson, S.C., Seven loving sisters, Mrs. Christine Hedgley, Mrs. Helen Early, Mrs. Wilma Jenkins, Mrs. Sarah Webber, Mrs. Betty Ruffin, Mrs. Phyllis Allen, and Mrs. Velveta Shipp; Two brothers, Mr. Rufus Martin,.Jr. and Mr. Marvin Martin, all of Chicago, III.; Six brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law. Four sweet grandsons and three lovely granddaughters, four aunts, one uncle, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers. We didnt want to give you up, Weii miss that smiie on your face but comforted are we by this thought In Heaven you wiii take your place. As a faithful member of New Bethel Baptist Church, she served as Mother of the Church and on several church committees. She was an active member of Sweet Evening Breeze O.E.S. No. 269, she was a past worthy Matron. She was a member of the Giadietts Club, a member of Eva J. Moore #348, Order of The Golden Circle. A member of the Tattnall-Evans County Missionary Baptist Association, and president of the Claxton District Union.
