LAWRENCE, PASTOR INTERMENT-HAGAN, GEORGIA HARPERS FUNERALHOME IN CHARGE CLAXTON, GEORGIA OBITUARY Mrs. Mamie Brewton Johnson was born to the parents of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hayes in North Carolina. She departed this life May 7, 1978 at Evans Memorial Hospital, Claxton, Ga. The family moved to Pembroke, Ga. when Mamie was very young. Later in life she moved to Evans County. Realizing their was work to be done for the Master, she joined the First African Baptist Church. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mr. James Lee Brewton in the year of 1914, who proceeded her in death 1954. In the year of 1965 she was wed to Mr. Horace Johnson, he too proceeded her in death. Mrs. Mamie was very active in church, community and various activities. She was a very energetic person, having love in her heart for all man kind. She was never to tired to lend a helping hand. She began working in the Mt. Calvary Association in 1920. She held the position of Vice President of the Women Convent, Treasurer of the B.Y.P.U. Dept., Chair Person of Union No. 2. In her church, served as Sunday School Teacher and Choir member for many years President of the W.M.B. Society since the Organization in 1935. Mrs. Mamie leaves to mourn her passing, one foster son, Eddie Brewton, River Head, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Guyton, Claxton, Ga.; three neices, Jeanie Mae Carter, Joyce Ann King of Atlanta, Ga., Earnestine Rogers, Savannah, Ga.; two nephews, Willie Lee Thomas, Jacksonville, Fla., Lucious Levette, Savannah, Ga.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Lily Mae Johnson, Savannah, and Mrs. Lucille Johnson, Augusta, Ga.; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Maude Brewton, Mrs. Annie Johnson, Claxton, Ga., Mrs. Parrie Lee Scott, Savannah, Ga., Mrs. Clara Hayes, Jackson- ville, Fla., others Marie Thomas, Jacksonville, Fla.; Walter Carter and James King of Atlanta; a host of other relatives and friends.
