TANKSLEY, OFFICIATING INTERMENT HAGAN CEMETERY HARPER FUNERAL HOME IN CHARGE OBITUARY Deacon Robert William Henley, Sr., was bom in Washington County, Georgia, on June 5, 1896, to the late George and Emma R. Henley. He joined Saint John Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under the Pastorate of Rev. Zach Lyde. On February 20, 1919, he married the former Miss Novella Gay. Four children were bora to this union, one of which is deceased. Deacon Henley was affiliated with many religious, civic and community activities. He served in the following capacities: Church Clerk for 25 years. Church Treasurer, Chairman of the Deacon Board, Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School, Master Mason and Past Master of St. Joseph Lodge, No. 76, a Member of Eznra. Con- sistory, No. 27 and Omar Temple No. 21 of Savannah, Georgia, and Assistant District Deputy of F. and A. M. of Georgia. At the time of his death he was serving as Superintendent of the Sunday School. He is a Veteran of of World War I. He leaves to mourn a loving wife, Mrs. Novella G. Henley; one daughter, Mrs. Gwendolyn H. Strickland of Claxton; two sons, Robert W. Henley, Jr., of Louisville, and George Rex Henley of Savannah; a sister, Mrs. Louise Grimes of Jacksonville, Fla.; a mother-in-law, Mrs. Sallie A. Macon; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Genevieve B. Hen- ley, and Mrs. Leona B. Henley; one son-in-law, Leamon H. Strickland, Sr.; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. L. Bryant, Mrs. Corine Kent, and Mrs. B. G. Macon; one brother-in-law, Mr. Raleigh Macon; eight grand- children; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Our Father knows whats best for us. So why should we complain We always want the sunshine. But he knows there must be rain. So whenever we are troubled. And when everything goes wrong.
