Meredith, Secretary of the Treasury, dated January 12, 1850 regarding the rights of the Cherokees who remained in North Carolina to receive interest payments under the Treaty of 1835 and acts of 1848. Parris expresses the opinion that the Eastern Cherokees are entitled to their share of the removal payments under the 1835 treaty though the continuance of that status is dubious.
