Page: [1] His Excellency The Governor of the State of Georgia We the Inhabitants of the So [South] Western Part of the County of Montgomery &c [et cetera] -- Beg leave to Present to your Excellencies [Excellency's] Consideration the Distres'd [Distressed] Situation we are in on Account of the Indians. -- Our number being Small and the great distance we are at from the more populous Part of the Country Obliges us at Every alarm to leave our homes and our all to the Discression [Discretion] of the Mercyless [Merciless] Savages whose Custom in General is to take what they [added text: can ] Carry away and destroy the rest. Their Repeated depredations of this kind has Ever retarded the Populating of this Part of the Country so as to make it able to defend it against their Incursions; We therefore make free to Implore your Aid to Relieve us from our Distresses the measures for bringing about so Salutary a matter Your own wisdom will best direct. But make free to Recomen'd [Recommend] that a Station be placed on the frontier Between Berryhills [deleted text: B ] and Beards Bluff which Space between Being near Seventy five miles. We concieve [conceive] that the Plantation of John Ford on the Oconee River to be a Suitable Place for Such Station.
