This petition, instituted by order of the Mechanical Society of Augusta, articulates various reasons that the recent sale of so-called "unlocated" lands within the territory of Georgia is fraudulent and should be considered null and void. Part of the argument rests on the assertion that the method of the sale, particularly the extinguishment of Indian claims to the "unlocated" lands, has no legal precedent.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>tcc936</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Telamon Cuyler, box 83, folder 33, document 01.</dc:source><dc:subject>Public lands--Georgia</dc:subject><dc:subject>South-Carolina Yazoo Company</dc:subject><dc:subject>Indian land transfers</dc:subject><dc:subject>Yazoo Fraud, 1795</dc:subject><dc:subject>Indians of North America--Legal status, laws,etc.</dc:subject><dc:title>[Petition of] the citizens of the County of Richmond, [Georgia] to the president and members of the convention of the State of Georgia, 1795 May 1 / by order of the Mechanical Society of Augusta, [Georgia]</dc:title><dc:type>Text</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
