I have received a letter from the adjutant General of the 7 M. district of the  
13 ult. [ultimo]  of which the following is an extract "The Majr. [Major]  General instructs me to say that you will have all the friendly Indians immediately enroled [enrolled]  fed and put on pay, also purchase for each one so enroled [enrolled]  one blanket and shirt and keep them [unclear text: embodied ]  for the protection of that frontier. The expense incurred for Blankets and shirts will be deducted out of their pay."  
I had previously given orders for enroling [enrolling]  them which I have repeated on receipt of this communication. Mr. Limbaugh is directed to apply to every town. I Shall know within a week the effect of the experiment. --  Mr. Barnard writes me today he is under serious apprehensions of danger to himself and property and to the frontiers. He is in very bad health which may have augmented his powers.
