Hawkins indicates that he has possession of two escaped slaves, a man named Fleming and his wife Phebe, who are the property of Henry March. The two fugitives were captured by (Creek ?) Indians at the confluence of the Flint and Chattahoochee Rivers. Hawkins reports that he paid the Indians 25 dollars for apprehending the two individuals and that March is responsible for repayment of this expense.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>tcc872</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Telamon Cuyler, box 76, folder 25, document 04.</dc:source><dc:subject>Creek Indians</dc:subject><dc:subject>Fugitive slaves</dc:subject><dc:title>[Letter] 1813 May 31, Creek Agency [to] Capt[ain Cook?], Fort Hawkins, [Georgia] / Col[onel] Benjamin Hawkins</dc:title><dc:type>Text</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
