Cleghorn, agent for the Cherokee Indians, to Wilson Lumpkin, Governor of Georgia (1831-1835), dated June 25, 1833. Cleghorn writes from the head of the Coosa River in Floyd County, Georgia regarding squatters who have been settling and improving land (possibly reserved to the Cherokee Indians) in violation of state law. Cleghorn admits that the fractions of land will bring a higher price with the improvements made to them, but requests guidance from Lumpkin on the matter.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>tcc857</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Telamon Cuyler, box 71, folder 01, document 01.</dc:source><dc:subject>Indian agents</dc:subject><dc:subject>Squatters--Georgia</dc:subject><dc:subject>Cherokee Indians--Government relations</dc:subject><dc:subject>Cherokee Indians--Land tenure</dc:subject><dc:subject>Real property--Valuation</dc:subject><dc:title>Letter, 1833 June 25, Head of Coosa, Van[n]'s Valley, Floyd Co[un]ty, Geo[rgi]a [to] Wilson Lumpkin, Milledgeville, G[eorgi]a / W[illia]m H.
