Dr [Dear] Sir; At the request of the persons concerned I inclose [enclose] you a statement made by each party, respecting their claims to improvements made by white persons inside of a neighbourhood [neighborhood] fence made for the purpose of keeping the cattle from the Chattahuchee bottoms, as well as protecting their crops. I expect you have seen Majr. [Major] Waters, he told me he would call on you, my opinion is that he has no legitimate claim to the improvements thus made by white men. The length of this fence is stated by some to be nine, and others twelve miles, Majr. [Major] Waters admits it to be six miles. your opinion I have no doubt would give satisfaction to all concerned. The renting of [off] yesterday was quite as good as I expected. The aggregate amount in the five counties will be about ten thousand dollars. I have the honor to be most respectfully your obdt Sert. I have lived with Major Waters for upwards of five years, at the time I enclosed the bend there was no claim or clearing but Major Waters' within the bend in the year 1829 Webb and Coleman cleared each of them a field within the bend, our fence protected their crops to the present time. the year 1830 Andrew Hambleton, Z. [Zachariah] Slayton, Jno [John] -- Hambleton and A. Pierce cleared each a field within [deleted text: one ] [added text: said ] fence, which fence protected their crops.
