The statements on behalf of John Hamilton, Andrew Hamilton, Zachariah Slayton, Philip Coleman, and Clinton Webb relate to improvements they had made on an enclosed piece of land along the Chattahoochee River which is claimed by George Waters. They dispute the claim that he is of Cherokee descent and thereby challenge his right of ownership. The men and the justices of the peace, who sign on their behalf, also refer Coffee to a recent act of the Georgia legislature that extended Georgia's jurisdiction over Cherokee lands within the state. Other documents related to this land dispute are tcc700, tcc703, and tcc704.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>tcc701</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Telamon Cuyler, box 01, folder 46, document 06.</dc:source><dc:subject>Cherokee Indians--Land tenure</dc:subject><dc:subject>Cherokee Indians--Claims against</dc:subject><dc:subject>Cherokee Indians--Legal status, laws, etc.</dc:subject><dc:subject>Waters, George M.</dc:subject><dc:title>[Sworn statements on behalf of] John Hamilton, Andrew Hamilton, Zachariah Slayton, Philip Coleman, and Clinton Webb, 1832 Jan. 23, Gwinnett County, Georgia</dc:title><dc:type>Text</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
