United States, Georgia, 32.75042, -83.50018Twiggs, John, fl. 17931793-07-19This is a letter dated July 19, 1793 from Rebel Town, Georgia, probably written to Edward Telfair, Governor of Georgia (1786-1787, 1790-1793), warning of troubles between the Upper Creeks and their Spanish allies and the state of Georgia as a consequence of the murder of a young Creek warrior named David Cornel(l) by a white scout, reportedly associated with Major James Seagrove. Twiggs indicates that he sees no way to avoid a war and advises that the state assemble troops in preparation.
