Smith in Clinton, Georgia to Charles J. McDonald, Governor of Georgia (1839-1843), dated May 17, 1841. Smith informs the governor that a corps of volunteers has been raised in Jones County but they have no armaments. Smith explains that during the recent Creek War, another company took possession of the Jones County arms, and he beseeches the governor to instruct him on how to proceed in order to secure weapons for the volunteers (possibly organized to join in the Second Seminole War, 1835-1842).</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>tcc625</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Telamon Cuyler, box 52, folder 04, document 01.</dc:source><dc:subject>Georgia--Militia--Mobilization</dc:subject><dc:subject>Military supplies</dc:subject><dc:subject>Seminole War, 2nd, 1835-1842</dc:subject><dc:subject>Creek War, 1836</dc:subject><dc:title>[Letter] 1841 May 17, Clinton, G[eorgi]a to Charles J.
