Poinsett to Governor Charles J. McDonald (Governor of Georgia 1839-1843) that accompanies a copy of an order (which does not survive with this letter) from the Adjutant General's office for the re-mustering of troops in the Okefenokee for an additional six weeks. Poinsett also informs the governor that the services of those troops will not be needed after the additional six-week period and that Congress will not pay for any additional troops to be called into service. Poinsett goes on to assure the governor that General Read's forces in the area of the Okefenokee will be sufficient to protect the citizens there from Indians should any problems arise. He also says that Captain Babbitt of the quartermaster's department is handling claims for supplies and transportation for the troops, and he addresses the fact that a surgeon of Major Brown's battalion was not paid because his name was left off the muster roll.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>tcc619</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Telamon Cuyler, box 52, folder 01, document 05.</dc:source><dc:subject>United States.
