Jesup in Florida to Governor William Schley (Governor of Georgia, 1835-1837) asking whether the governor received his earlier letter about a regiment of volunteers needed in Florida. Jesup warns the governor that the Tennessee Brigade's tour is about to expire and that he will soon be left with an inadequate number of troops. He goes on to tell the governor of the recent capture of an Indian and about 40 of his black allies, whom Jesup says have given him much information about both black and Indian leaders and their whereabouts. Jesup claims that, with the help of the requested new regiment, he may be able to end the war by mid-January. Jesup also claims that the Seminole War is really a "negro ... war" and not an Indian one, and it is therefore very important for the South that the war end as quickly as possible.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>tcc600</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Telamon Cuyler, box 50, folder 13, document 03.</dc:source><dc:subject>African Americans--Relations with Indians</dc:subject><dc:subject>Georgia.
