Hazzard 1 August 1836 Draft for Florida Col Wm. [William] W Hazards Answered 1st Sept 1836 Page: [2] Aug. 1, 1836 To His Excellency Wm [William] Schley [deleted text: Esqr ] Sir. With such an admirable example as your Patriotism & zeal has presented for our invitation, the officer must be deficient in that preeminent qualification in a Soldier, enterprise and energy, if he did not exert himself to execute your orders. Having failed to effect a draft from this Regiment at the time required by your orders for the reason stated in a former communication to you, and observing that Volunteer Services will be required the ensuing Winter to subdue the Indians in Florida, who have been reinforced from the Creeks & others; I proposed at the recent Review to supply the draft by Volunteer-Enlistment & herewith send your Excellency a Return of Volunteers from the 3d [3rd] Regiment Revie [document damaged: wed ] by Battalions, & will wait your orders. I pray you be assured of my highest consideration & respect [Signed] Wm. [William] Whig Hazzard West Point 1st Aug. 1836 Page: [3] Return of Volunteers from the Third Regiment G.M.
