Williams writes in response to a letter from the governor inquiring about accusations that Williams was harboring troublesome Indians. Williams explains that several Indian men, women and children have been living and working with him for many years and are in no way disruptive in his neighborhood. He attributes the accusation to the jealousy of a local man, and further comments on the appearance and behavior of the men Schley sent to deliver the missive. Williams informs Schley that these men dressed themselves as Indians and tried to create alarm in the area after handing him the governor's letter.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>tcc583</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Telamon Cuyler, box 50, folder 09, document 06.</dc:source><dc:subject>Indians of North America--Claims against</dc:subject><dc:title>Letter, 1836 June 24, Marion County, G[eorgi]a [to] William Schley, Governor of Georgia, Columbus, [Georgia] / William Williams, Sr.</dc:title><dc:type>Text</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
