Currey, emigrating agent for the Cherokee removal, writes to Georgia Governor William Schley (1835-1837) on February 11, 1836. Currey asks Schley to forward to him, through the Commissioner of Indian Affairs' office, a communication found in the possession of John Howard Payne and supposedly written by Payne (possibly during Payne's arrest, along with Cherokee Chief John Ross, by the Georgia Guard in late 1835). Currey also requests that the governor deliver information to Judge William H. Underwood that is highly important in "disposing finally of the Cherokee question" and settling a point of contention between himself and Hugh L. White. Enclosures are no longer attached.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>tcc560</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Telamon Cuyler, box 50, folder 05, document 01.</dc:source><dc:subject>Cherokee Indians--Relocation</dc:subject><dc:subject>Indian agents</dc:subject><dc:title>Letter, 1836 Feb. 11, Coosawattie [i.e. Coosawattee], G[eorgi]a [to] W[illia]m Schley, [Governor of Georgia], Milledgeville, G[eorgi]a / Benjamin F.
