Cleveland informs Schley of a recent murder near the foot of the mountains, referred to as the Blue Ridge, that form a boundary between Habersham and Union Counties. It is widely suspected by citizens of the area that the murder was committed by Indians. Cleveland discusses evidence of Indian activity in the area and urges the governor to authorize a military force to be stationed along the foot of the mountains for the protection of both counties.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>tcc544</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Telamon Cuyler, box 50, folder 01, document 01.</dc:source><dc:subject>Indians of North America--Claims against</dc:subject><dc:subject>Murder</dc:subject><dc:subject>Armed forces</dc:subject><dc:title>Letter, 1837 Sept. 16, Naucoochee [i.e., Nacoochee] Valley, Habersham Co[unty], G[eorgi]a to W[illia]m Schley, Milledgeville, G[eorgi]a / Gen[era]l Benj[ami]n Cleveland</dc:title><dc:type>Text</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
