Troup, Governor of Georgia (1823-1827), dated May 29, 1826. Murphy writes regarding recent plans for canal construction to connect various rivers in Alabama and Georgia, most notably the Tennessee, Savannah, and Chattahoochee Rivers. Murphy also discusses the recent abrogation of the Treaty of Indian Springs (February 12, 1825) between the United States and the Creek Nation of Indians. This treaty ceded all the Creek lands remaining in Georgia, and most in Alabama before being revoked by the U.S. Senate.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>tcc497</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Telamon Cuyler, box 48, folder 14, document 02.</dc:source><dc:subject>Creek Indians--Treaties</dc:subject><dc:subject>Canals--Design and construction</dc:subject><dc:title>[Letter] 1826 May 29, Claiborne, [Alabama to] George M.
