Kingsley from Fort George (Chatham County, Georgia) to David B. Mitchell, Governor of Georgia (1809-1813, 1815-1817), dated September 13, 1816. Kingsley informs the governor that a number of his slaves had been taken by the Indians and having recently received information that the so-called Negro Fort at Apalachicola Bay (Florida) had been captured, he requests information on the recovery of his property. He refers to a recent unnamed treaty negotiated by General Pinckney which promised to restore property plundered by either the Spanish or the Indians. Kingsley indicates his willingness to make financial compensation to the captors for the return of his slaves.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image of original manuscript, scanned by the University of Georgia Libraries in 2000, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>tcc442</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Telamon Cuyler, box 47, folder 08, document 03.</dc:source><dc:subject>Indians of North America--Claims against</dc:subject><dc:subject>Enslaved persons</dc:subject><dc:title>Letter, 1816 Sept. 13, Fort George, [Chatham County], Georgia [to] David B.
