Mitchell (1809-1813, 1815-1817), dated September 7, 1816. Gibson requests that the Governor forward a list of the slaves recaptured during a battle at Apalachicola so that planters in the area can determine if any of their slaves were recovered. Gibson refers to Colonel Duncan Clinch, who attacked the runaway slaves at an abandoned British fort (often referred to as the Negro Fort) on the Apalachicola River with an army of American and Creek Indian forces in July of 1816. Gibson also inquires about the status of the property of a deceased citizen some of whose slaves are thought to be within the limits of the Indian nation.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image of original manuscript, scanned by the University of Georgia Libraries in 2000, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>tcc441</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Telamon Cuyler, box 47, folder 08, document 02.</dc:source><dc:subject>Fugitive slaves</dc:subject><dc:subject>Creek Indians--Warfare</dc:subject><dc:title>Letter, 1816 Sept. 7, St. Marys, Ge[orgia to] David B.
