Page: [1] Washington Apr. 18th 1788 Dear Sir I have nothing to inform you of but an Extract of Mr. Karrs letter dated the 16th instance Wherin [Wherein] he informs -- " That we have almost [edge of page: daily ] Alarms on the frontiers of this County last friday about Sixteen Indians fired on two of my [edge of page: spies ] Near the [illegible text] of Oconey the Indians lay [edge of document] in a very Sequestered Place near the river bank so that the spies rode amongst them before they discovered them and the first discovery was the flashes of the Indians Guns with about 12 or 15 feet the Spies Mr. Jos Mille [edge of document: gan ] gan and Mr. James finny Resolutely return the fire Mr. Millegan killd [killed] one Indian dead on the spot and Mr. Finny it appeard [appeared] by the Sign wounded one and both spies made a safe retreat with only the loss of Mr. Millegans Shot Bag which the Strap was cut of by a Bullet and part of the [unclear text: Breech ] of Finnys Gun shot of the Indians still this side of the river and the fronteir [frontier] Settlements much alarmd [alarmed] as we [edge of document: can ] by no means get any assistance from any other part of the Country to the part I must once more beg your [added text (appears to be different ink and hand): 74-1 ] Page: [2] Attention to furnish our fronteer [frontier] Stations with provisions or otherwise it will be Impossible for me to Support the States Guards, or even the Spies therfore [therefore] shall not pretend to promise them relief any longer with an Emediate [Immediate] Supply your Compliance will do your Country the Most Singular Service as well as Much Oblige your Mo.
