Davenport writes from Cumberland that the Spanish have been trying to convince the Choctaws to accept their gifts and rise in opposition to the Americans. A Choctaw chief warns Davenport that his power to restrain his young men from accepting the Spanish goods is waning. Davenport also informs the governor that Creek leader Alexander McGillivray is well supplied with arms by the Spanish.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image of original manuscript, scanned by the University of Georgia Libraries in 2000, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>tcc281</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Telamon Cuyler, box 40A, folder Telfair29, document 01.</dc:source><dc:subject>Choctaw Indians--Government relations</dc:subject><dc:subject>Chickasaw Indians--Government relations</dc:subject><dc:title>[Letter] 1786 Nov. 1, Cumberland [to] the Governor of Georgia / William Davenport</dc:title><dc:type>Text</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
