Governor (1798-1801 : Jackson)</dc:creator><dc:date>1798-02-15</dc:date><dc:description>This document is a letter from Governor of Georgia James Jackson (1798-1801) to the Senators and Representatives (from Georgia) in Congress, dated February 15, 1798. Jackson indicates that the information in the letter is intended to aid the Georgia congressmen in their arguments relative to the boundary lines of the state of Georgia, particularly with respect to the Creek Nation of Indians. Jackson refers specifically to the disputed Tallassee region which was ostensibly ceded by the Creeks in the 1790 Treaty of New York, and directs attention to the opinions of a Dr. White on the issue. He also mentions Alexander McGillivray and John Galphin. Jackson makes reference to a number of enclosed documents in support of Georgia's claims against the Creeks, but they are no longer attached.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image of original manuscript, scanned by the University of Georgia Libraries in 2000, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>tcc218</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Telamon Cuyler, box 78, folder 12, document 17.</dc:source><dc:subject>Boundaries</dc:subject><dc:subject>Creek Indians--Land tenure</dc:subject><dc:title>[Letter] 1798 Feb. 15, Executive Department, Louisville, [Georgia to] the Senators and Representatives [of Georgia] in Congress / Gov[ernor of Georgia] James Jackson</dc:title><dc:type>Text</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
