United States, Georgia, 32.75042, -83.50018Davenport, William1787-05-27This is a letter from William Davenport, in the Chickasaw Nation, to an unnamed Governor of Georgia (probably George Mathews, 1787-1788), dated May 27, 1787. Davenport reports that the Chickasaws have recently been consulting about information they received from a general meeting of the Indian Nations to the North and West of them in which a loose confederation was apparently formed for the purpose of presenting a united front against the whites, to which all but the Choctaws had agreed. Davenport also informs the governor that the Chickasaws have no ammunition and few supplies owing to a shortage among the traders in the area.
