Mitchell. Rabun asks Mitchell to assemble fifty Indians to serve as guards for surveyors who will be laying out counties and districts in the territory recently acquired through a treaty with the Indians (probably the Treaty of the Creek Agency on the Flint River, 1818). Rabun indicates that the guards will be paid according to rank but must supply their own provisions, ammunition and other equipment. The surveyors mentioned are Doctor Green, Benjamin H. Sturges, Colonel Jackson, and J. C. Watson.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>krc141</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Keith Read, box 20, folder 51, document 03.</dc:source><dc:subject>Creek Indians--Treaties</dc:subject><dc:subject>Creek Indians--Government relations</dc:subject><dc:subject>Surveying</dc:subject><dc:title>[Letter] 1819 Apr. 16, Milledgeville, [Georgia to] Maj[o]r W[illia]m S.
