Governor (1817-1819 : Rabun)</dc:creator><dc:date>1818-03-31</dc:date><dc:description>This is a letter dated March 31, 1818 from William Rabun (Governor of Georgia, 1817-1819) to General David B. Mitchell concerning the current campaign against the Lower Creek Indians. Rabun tells Mitchell that Creek leader William McIntosh has been highly successful in his leadership of the "friendly" Creeks and could probably subdue the "refractory" parts of the Lower Creeks with the proper military support. The letter also mentions Andrew Jackson's campaign in the southern parts of the Creek Nation and says that Jackson has seen no hostile Indians there and probably never will.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>krc136</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Keith Read, box 20, folder 50, document 01.</dc:source><dc:subject>Creek Indians--Wars</dc:subject><dc:subject>McIntosh, William, approximately 1775-1825</dc:subject><dc:subject>Jackson, Andrew, 1767-1845</dc:subject><dc:title>[Letter] 1818 Mar. 31, Milledgeville, Geo[rgia to] Gen[era]l D[avid] B.
