Wilson calls Schley's attention to the case of Joseph Espey, who received a receipt for money owed to claimants under the provisions of the Treaty of Indian Springs (probably the second Treaty of Indian Springs, February 12, 1825, concluded between a faction of Creek Indians and U.S. commissioners). Lumpkin says that the money had already been paid to the heirs of Espey's father, Thomas, and that Joseph Espey pointed out this error and agreed to send the incorrect receipt back to the governor. Lumpkin asks the governor to send Espey a corrected receipt showing that the claim had already been paid, and he refers Schley to (Alfred?) Cuthbert should he have any further questions about the case.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>krc113</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Keith Read, box 16, folder 27, document 01.</dc:source><dc:subject>Creek Indians--Claims</dc:subject><dc:subject>Receipts (Acknowledgments)</dc:subject><dc:subject>Espey, Joseph</dc:subject><dc:title>Letter, 1836 Apr. 29, Athens, G[eorgi]a [to] Governor [William] Schley, Milledgeville, G[eorgi]a / Wilson Lumpkin</dc:title><dc:type>Text</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
