United States, Georgia, Chatham County, 31.97402, -81.092431730/1842This undated document is a listing of people in Chatham County, Georgia, who are entitled to either one or two draws in the land lottery that is to divide up lands acquired from the Creek Indians, pursuant to two acts passed by the Georgia assembly (December 24, 1825 and December 14, 1826) as a result of the Treaty of Indian Springs (February 1825). Special mention is made of veterans of the Indian Wars or the Revolutionary War and/or their widows and orphans. The legitimacy of these draws is uncertain since the Treaty of Indian Springs, considered fraudulent by a majority of Creeks, was ultimately voided by the Treaty of Washington, D.C.
