Habersham, a Georgia treaty commissioner, details the course of the meeting, including the demands of the Georgians and the initial refusal of the Creeks to comply. He mentions that the Georgians insisted on holding several Creeks as hostages during the proceedings and says that a military force led by General John Twiggs was present. Eventually some of the Creeks agree to the Georgian's terms, and Habersham assures the governor that a treaty will be signed the following day. These negotiations are ostensibly related to the Treaty of Shoulderbone, November 3, 1786, during which Hoboithle Micco (the Tallassee or Tame King) and Neha Micco (Fat King of the Cussetas) were held hostage. The Treaty of Shoulderbone was considered fraudulent by the dominant Creek leadership.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>krc093</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Keith Read, box 11, folder 20, document 01.</dc:source><dc:subject>Creek Indians--Treaties</dc:subject><dc:title>[Letter] 1786 Oct. 26, camp near the Oconee River [to] John Houstoun, [Governor of Georgia] / John Habersham</dc:title><dc:type>Text</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
