A note on the back indicates that the letter was directed to (John C. ?) Calhoun, but it is unclear exactly to whom the correspondence was directed. The letter warns of the political consequences of revealing the overzealous behavior of Andrew Jackson during the Seminole War (First Seminole War 1817-1819). The author urges the recipient to consider Jackson's popularity among the American people.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>krc061</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Keith Read, box 04, folder 12, document 01.</dc:source><dc:subject>United States--Politics and government--1815-1861</dc:subject><dc:subject>Seminole War, 1st, 1817-1818</dc:subject><dc:subject>Jackson, Andrew, 1767-1845</dc:subject><dc:title>[Letter] 1831 Jan. 3, Washington [to John C.] Calhoun [?]</dc:title><dc:type>Text</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
