Terrell writes to Generals William Clark, Thomas Hinds, and John Coffee, commissioners for treating with the Choctaw Indians, informing them of the dissatisfaction among the Choctaws with the method of negotiation. Terrell offers advice on how to go about negotiating the treaty and reservation system, based on the advice of Choctaw leader General Hummingbird. Choctaw chiefs Moshulatubbee, Greenwood LeFlore and David Folsom are also mentioned in the letter. Terrell, Clark, Hinds, and Coffee were all involved in negotiating treaties with the Chickasaw and Choctaw Indians in 1825-1826.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image of original manuscript, scanned by the University of Georgia Libraries in 2000, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>krc010</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, Keith Read, box 06, folder 20, document 10.</dc:source><dc:subject>Choctaw Indians--Treaties</dc:subject><dc:subject>Chickasaw Indians--Treaties</dc:subject><dc:subject>Indian land transfers</dc:subject><dc:title>[Letter] 1826 Nov. 8, treaty ground, [to] Gen[era]ls [William] Clark, [Thomas] Hinds, and [John] Coffee / J[ohn] D.
