Hardaway in Columbus, Georgia regarding the sale of his interest in some former Indian land to John Fontaine, a Columbus merchant, and his business partner. The land is in Russell County, Alabama, and Hardaway sold it for six hundred dollars. Hardaway states that he will sign over the contracts made with the Indians (probably Creek Indians) for the land as soon as the federal government approves the sale; he agrees that, should the government not approve the transaction, he will refund the amount of the sale. It is not clear to whom the letter was directed.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>jft003</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, John Fontaine Papers, box 01, folder 1835 September-December, document 01.</dc:source><dc:subject>Creek Indians--Land tenure</dc:subject><dc:subject>Indian land transfers</dc:subject><dc:title>[Letter] 1835 Dec. 31, Columbus, [Georgia] / Rob[er]t S.
