Sir. 
I. was not apprised of Your not having a regular discharge from the U. S. Army until recently -- as also the residue of the Captains of the 1st Regt. Geo. Vol. [Regiment Georgia Volunteers]  under My Command Stationed at New Echota = I was under the impression that Genl [General]  Floyd had given a discharge which here to fore has been a practice with the commanding Genl [General]  = until I was informed by Capt. Storey of the Coweta Vol. [Volunteers]  That he had no Regular discharge  
I therefore with pleasure avail My self Of the Earliest Apportunity [Opportunity]  in Manifestation Of the highest regard for the Officers of My redgiment [regiment]  in the discharge Of a duty incumbent upon me I. should indeed be wanting in the kind of feeling which is appropriate on Such an Ocation [Occasion]  did I not Affer [Offer]  Gratefull [Grateful]  acknowledgments for the favourable [favorable]  Sentiments and kindly feelings implyed [implied]  of me by the Afficers [Officers]  and Soldiers of the 1st Redgt [Regiment]  during Aur [Our]  Campaign in the Cherokee Nation --
